Gorra Thrad
Human — Subrace: Illuskan/Northerner
Barbarian
"Born not to any homeland, but to a native sea,
I, Gorra, from the blood of Great Thrad,
Daughter of the Ghost Crab tribe,
Came of age with wooden hull and seawater
Swaying and rocking 'neath the red, callused skin of my bare feet,
Driven 'fore a sail filled with wind
To seek other vessels and other shores.
Those of meager means we harried not;
Our blades were for the fattened merchant-princes,
The craven goblinfolk,
The beastly orcs and gnolls,
The heedless pirates who would rob those whom we spared
And the merciless kings and jarls who prospered from their people's pains
And feasted as their people starved.
For those base sorts, our sea-folk gave no gifts but our ire.
But for those in need: the plundered port-hamlet,
Those widowed or orphaned by War,
The anglers on a barren strait
Or those robbed and cast away by the sea's jackals,
Our barrels and coffers were opened,
Our mead and meat were shared,
Our hammocks were raised
And our decks had room for more hands
Of those who would travel with us,
Join our journeys or be wed into us.
And so I lived until my seventeenth summer."
